You, nobly born, reading this. You have brought yourself to the place where your inner life calls you to something more, something higher. Through effort and grace, this noble aspiration has been born in you. Those who are seeking something beyond are on a noble journey, because it is noble to even aspire to truth, love, peace, source, or whatever words we use to try express the inexpressible. This noble aspiration has made itself felt in your life, and this is something precious beyond price.
In a world that values personal ego-satisfaction and material gain as primary goals, to feel and follow the need for something more, something higher, is a sign of courage and inner nobility, no matter how clearly we may see our own weaknesses and flaws, no matter where we are on the spiritual journey. And it is a great help on this journey if we recognize the desire for something higher and deeper as the precious gift that it is. This recognition helps to grow our being and it deepens our conscious connection with the sacred nature of things. And this recognition provides strength and support to help us persist and go forward.
Sometimes those who feel this call have a sense of being out of step with those around them, or feel that perhaps there is something wrong with them. But there is nothing wrong, it is simply that the majority of people have not yet consciously felt that inner voice that wants something more, that longs for a more direct experience of the sacred and meaningful. The yearning is in everyone, but for most it is not understood for what it is. The outer world’s focus is on consumerism and entertainment, not the search for meaning or a life of depth. So the outer world does not support the spiritual journey.
But support can be found, though it may take effort to find it and use it fully. You are heir to a noble heritage—the heritage of the spiritual quest and the sincere longing to truly know what is real, to know that which transcends the ups and downs of life and the patterns of gain and loss. Mystics, sages and spiritual guides throughout all ages and cultures have attested to the fact of a sacred reality and have assured humanity that it is actually possible to find and know this sacredness for yourself. And there is support for this quest. There’s support from spiritual guides and their teachings. There’s support in spiritual practice. There’s inner support. And there’s the vitally important support that comes from other people also on a spiritual path. One way to find support from others is to explore groups that have developed around spiritual teachers or sets of teachings, and to keep exploring to find settings and people that feel right for you and can support you and help you grow.
You are a unique one-time-only never-to-be-repeated expression of the sacred source of all life, the source that beats your heart and breathes your breath. In you, the universal patterns and attributes of all human beings have a unique configuration, and from you a unique contribution pours outward into the world and into all your relationships. The more we recognize the sacredness of the nobility within us, the more it develops. The more it develops, the more our unique contribution automatically transmits what is higher and deeper, and the more it brings courage, love and peace to others.
