I wrote this poem at Lunar New Year, and now it’s being posted at the start of Nowruz, Persian New Year. Today is the vernal equinox, the balance point and emergence point where we celebrate the energy and renewal of what is about to come—new life, rebirth, and new growth—and where we let go of whatever needs to be released, we put behind us what is no longer needed, and we give thanks for the strength, fortitude, and assistance that have brought us this far.
On the Occasion of Lunar New Year
I celebrate every New Year that comes along:
Lunar New Year
Losar
Nowruz
Rosh Hashanah
Occidental New Year
Accidental New Year
New Year on other planets
New Year in every orbit
New Year in every world
One New Year after another.
It’s always New Year somewhere –
It’s always New Year here.
